Thanks to the Covid-19 pandemic, the world of movies has been impacted like never before as countless films have had to either move online or have their release dates delayed.
Despite the changing landscape, new films have still found a way onto our screens and The Alpinist looks set to be a must-watch for documentary fans.
But just where will The Alpinist be available to watch when the film releases?
The Alpinist: Release date and plot
The Alpinist arrives in the US on September 10th, 2021 with fans in the UK having to wait a little longer until September 23rd.
From the directors of Valley Uprising, Reel Rock and First Ascent, The Alpinist explores the story of Canadian rock climber and alpinist, Marc André Leclerc.
The jaw-dropping documentary details Marc-André’s life and rock-climbing exploits which see him traverse some of the toughest mountains in the world.
Where to watch The Alpinist
The Alpinist will be available to watch in theaters when it initially releases.
That’s right, film fans will have to venture out to the cinema in order to watch The Alpinist on the big screen.
Readers in both the US and UK can check out which venues will be screening the film here, where tickets are also on sale.
As the film is exclusive to cinemas upon its release, the documentary will not be available on any of the major streaming services.
However, there’s nothing to say that The Alpinist won’t be made available on the likes of Netflix or Amazon Prime Video somewhere later down the line.
What happened to Marc-André Leclerc? [spoilers]
Marc-André Leclerc died on March 5th, 2018 at the age of 25.
While Marc-André Leclerc was regarded as a hugely talented climber, the documentary also highlights the danger of alpine climbing as the film also touches upon his tragic death.
In the spring of 2018, Marc-André and his climbing partner, Ryan Johnson, successfully completed a new route on the North face of the Mendenhall Towers in Alaska.
The duo were expected to return to base camp by March 7th but they never made it back.
A search operation got underway but faced delays due to poor weather.
Eventually, ropes were found along Marc-André and Ryan’s descent route, suggesting that they had been caught in an avalanche or rockfall according to Outside Online.
The Alpinist will be available to watch in cinemas in the US from September 10th and the UK from September 23rd.
