Kanye West’s Second ‘DONDA’ Album Listening Event
Even with all of the rumours that surrounded the potential Kanye West album release, it still feels like things came together really quickly this week. The listening event for DONDA a few weeks ago got Kanye West his own day in Atlanta, but we were still without an album. It got pushed back which was a surprise to some, but not to others.
Supposedly, the album is set to drop tonight, but it was still being worked on all day, so who knows. Either way, there is another event being held in the Mercedes Benz Stadium. The last one broke the streaming record for Apple Music, so it’ll be interesting to see if this one does better or worse.
It’s rumored that Kanye West held a listening party in Las Vegas this past weekend to play songs from his long-teased album Donda. Now, more publicly, Live Nation Entertainment and G.O.O.D. Music’s Pusha T have announced that West will host a Donda Listening Event this Thursday (July 22) at Mercedes-Benz Stadium in Atlanta. Alongside the album’s official announcement on Tuesday night, it was revealed that the listening party will be livestreamed globally via Apple. Find the initial announcement, as well as West’s first Instagram post in a long time, below.
DONDA is set to drop at midnight (or at some point on Friday at least) and beforehand, Kanye is hosting a listening party event at the Mercedes Benz Stadium in Atlanta. The event is being live streamed in its entirety by Apple Music. It’s similar to what the artist did before the release of The Life Of Pablo.
Back in June 2020, ahead of releasing his single “Wash Us in the Blood,” Kanye West said that his follow-up to Jesus Is King would be titled God’s Country. He quickly pivoted, claiming that the album Donda (or Donda: With Child) would get released in late July. No album materialized.
West has shared multiple proposed Donda tracklists. One tracklist featured “Wash Us in the Blood,” as well as a song called “Tell the Vision.” Notably, West features on a track of the same name on the new Pop Smoke album Faith.
Kanye West famously debuted his album The Life of Pablo at a massive listening event (and fashion show) at Madison Square Garden in 2016. He also held various events surrounding the releases of the 2018 Wyoming albums: Ye, Kids See Ghosts, Nas’ Nasir, and more.
Even if the album takes a little longer than expected to come out in its final form, which we definitely expect it to, at least we should hear some great music previews during the event. The last one definitely gave us some moments. It’s set to start in an hour at 8PM EST and you can watch here or on YouTube below.
