American singer and Songwriter, Ashley Nicolette Frangipane, known professionally as Halsey, has released a new single “Nightmare (Reprise) ” off her fourth studio album “If I Can’t Have Love, I Want Power” producers Atticus Ross & Trent Reznor.

“Nightmare”, a song dedicated to young women, is Halsey’s first solo release from 2019, following hit single “Without Me”. Despite “Without Me” featuring on Halsey’s third LP, “Nightmare” is a stand-alone record. Lyrically, the track acts as a follow-up to “Devil In Me,” a track from 2017 album hopeless fountain kingdom, which discusses Halsey’s passive past. The track was officially announced following their show at Webster Hall in honor of her previous album hopeless fountain kingdom. Around this time, Halsey added a new website to their social media bios, dedicated to the interpretation of nightmares. “Nightmare (Reprise)”, is similar to the original, but instead, it is produced by Trent Renzor, & Atticus Ross. This version of Nightmare was revealed to be on the Walmart Exclusive version of the album, and a snippet was also revealed with the track.

On June 28, Halsey announced her new album via billboards in Los Angeles and New York City, following a post on her social media. On July 7, 2021, she announced the release date, cover art and would say the name of the album is If I Can’t Have Love, I Want Power in a Twitter post. The album will be produced by Trent Reznor and Atticus Ross, members of the band Nine Inch Nails perhaps best known for scoring The Social Network, Gone Girl, and Watchmen. The Target exclusive version of If I Can’t Have Love, I Want Power includes a bonus track, who’s title is currently unknown.

Halsey unveiled the album cover with a teaser video at New York’s Metropolitan Museum of Art, where she wandered around looking at maternity-themed art before pulling a curtain down to show the cover in a gold frame. Fans believe she shot the photo in March 2021. The maternity references in the teaser and the cover art nod to Halsey’s pregnancy, which they announced in January 2021. She explained on Instagram:

The of the album was designed by Lucas Garrido. Gaining attention from self-released music on social media platforms, Halsey was signed by Astralwerks in 2014 and released her debut EP, Room 93, later that year.

In 2016, Halsey was featured on the Chainsmokers’ single “Closer”, which topped the charts in over ten countries. Her second studio album, Hopeless Fountain Kingdom (2017), consisted of more “radio-friendly” music than her previous releases; its singles “Now or Never” and “Bad at Love” reached the top twenty of the Billboard Hot 100, with the former peaking in the top five.

Halsey’s third studio album, Manic (2020), became her best selling album worldwide, while its lead single, “Without Me”, became her most successful single as a lead artist. In 2020, Billboard reported that Halsey has sold over one million albums and been streamed over six billion times in the United States. She is noted for her distinctive singing voice. Her awards and nominations include four Billboard Music Awards, one American Music Award, one GLAAD Media Award, an MTV Video Music Award, two Grammy Awards, and being named Songwriter of the year by BMI Film & TV Awards in 2021.
