The trailer of the long-awaited fourth film of the ground-breaking franchise The Matrix has just dropped, and a lot happens in just three minutes.
Ever since 1999, Matrix has defined a whole genre and a whole generation. Almost two decades later, the sci-fi film is making a strong comeback, hinting back to the glorious original film that introduced us to Neo.
In the three-minute-long trailer, every scene is impeccable. What seems to be repeated though, is White Rabbit references.
“White Rabbit” is the theme song of The Matrix 4 trailer
The Matrix Resurrections trailer features some Alice in Wonderland references, particularly favouring the White Rabbit.
The theme song of the trailer is “White Rabbit” by the American rock band Jefferson Airplane, and it appropriately describes the events happening.
Directed by Lana Wachowski, the film’s protagonist Neo – or Thomas Anderson- is characterised as the “white rabbit,” as he’s curious to unpack his dreams and break free from his false reality.
“One pill makes you larger / One pill makes you small,” the lyrics go, while Neo is seen to take the red pill, which gets him into the rabbit hole of discovery.
More “White Rabbit” references in The Matrix 4
Apart from the theme song and its lyrics, the White Rabbit is referenced again when Neo enters a cafe and the character played by Priyanka Chopra Jonas is reading the book “Alice in Wonderland.”
Later on, the character of Jessica Henwick’s appears with an arm rabbit tattoo, leading Neo down a path that suggests again a rabbit hole.
“If you want the truth Neo, you’re gonna have to follow me,” the user inside the Matrix says and Neo follows.
“When logic and proportion have fallen sloppy dead, feed your head,” the Matrix 4 trailer ends, wrapping up the White Rabbit references and making fans excited for December 22nd to arrive so that we can fully unpack the Alice in Wonderland references, enjoy the sci-fi’s brilliant cinematography and Keanu Reeves’ iconic performance.
