American rapper, Jonathan Lyndale Kirk, known professionally as DaBaby is not holding up on his freestyles in the wake of the controversy surrounding his homophobic comments at Rolling Loud festival.

He is back today with another new one, this time deciding to rap over Moneybagg Yo’s hit ‘Wockesha’ which recently topped the Urban radio charts. Moneybagg’s song samples DeBarge’s ‘Stay With Me’ which has been famously sampled previously by Biggie’s ‘One More Chance’ and Ashanti’s ‘Foolish’.

DaBaby is in the middle of a storm after homophobic comments made at the Rolling Loud festival this past weekend in Miami but he’s not letting that stop his flow of music. Today, he drops a new song and video ‘Giving What It’s Supposed To Give’.

He has done what most others wouldn’t in the face of cancellation — release new music. The rapper’s grind didn’t stop following his comments at Rolling Loud that sparked controversy. He maintained that even if he is facing backlash, he won’t start hiding like other celebrities.

Earlier this month, representatives from various U.S. HIV organizations signed an open letter to DaBaby after the Charlotte rapper made homophobic remarks during his set at Rolling Loud Miami 2021. “We must address the miseducation about HIV, expressed in your comments, and the impact it has on various communities,” the letter read. Additionally, DaShawn Usher, GLAAD’s associate director for communities of color and one of the letter’s signatories, said, “Together with leaders in the HIV field, we are asking for a meeting with DaBaby to educate and enlighten him.”

In a press release Tuesday (Aug. 31), GLAAD revealed that DaBaby was in attendance for a conversation with GLAAD, the Black AIDS Institute, Gilead Sciences COMPASS Initiative Coordinating Centers, National Minority AIDS Council (NMAC), The Normal Anomaly Initiative, Positive Women’s Network-USA, Prevention Access Campaign (U=U), the Southern AIDS Coalition, and Transinclusive Group, as well as “a faith and HIV advisor” to discuss the reality of living with HIV and AIDS.

According to a press release, DaBaby met virtually with leaders from several H.I.V. organizations on August 25. During the meeting, they “discussed HIV history and education, as well as the groups’ work in Black, LGBTQ, and faith communities.” In a statement included with the press release, the leaders said, “DaBaby was genuinely engaged, apologized for the inaccurate and hurtful comments he made about people living with HIV, and received our personal stories and the truth about HIV and its impact on Black and LGBTQ communities with deep respect.”

Quotable Lyrics:

  • If it wasn’t for that, the world wouldn’t feel y’all
  • Yeah, I see through you niggas
  • These stupid-ass niggas forgot I got plenty sense
  • Think they can just rap on songs and shoot at niggas (Ah)
  • All of y’all some foolish niggas
