American singer and songwriter, Lauren Michelle Jauregui Morgado is ready to show the world her debut solo project Prelude, and in a new interview with Billboard on Wednesday (Sept. 15), she lets us know how she’s rolling it out.

Prelude is the upcoming debut solo project by Cuban-American singer-songwriter Lauren Jauregui. First announced for 2020, the project is expected to be released in Fall 2021 via Columbia Records label.

The 25-year-old singer sat down with Billboard News host Chelsea Briggs to talk about Prelude, which she will be presenting for the very first time during a special global livestream performance via Moment House in October.

“I want the story to tell itself through the music,” the “Expectations” singer says. “It’s very introspective. I go through a lot of different emotions and revealings throughout it. And it’s also just the beginning, you know? So it’s just the first round of people seeing me for the songwriter that I am and for the artist that I am across the board, even beyond just the music. Like just the whole vision of everything coming to life.”

Jauregui details that Prelude dives into vulnerable topics ranging from mental health to love. “I feel like I really explore my strength through my vulnerability,” she says. But her debut solo project also marks “an unveiling [rather] than a discovery” of her voice after her girl group Fifth Harmony went on indefinite hiatus in 2018.

In a December 2019 interview with Billboard, Lauren first talked about this long-awaited debut solo project. I’m so proud of the way that I’ve been able to articulate my point of view. I’m emo, so you’re gonna get some deep, dark lyrics from my soul, but some bops too… It’s gonna be really fun. I’m really excited to share it with the world, but I’m just kind of packaging everything and still finishing up some songs.

The Miami native finally unveiled her project two years later in a new interview with Billboard, where she explained that the songwriting process is based on vulnerable topics ranging from mental health to love, and that it will be “an unveiling [rather] than a discovery” of her voice.

“I have learned that I am resilient. I have learned that I truly have a lot of inner-strength and power. And I have learned that I am protected and guided spiritually, and I’ve leaned in a much deeper way than I ever have in my life,” she says of the songwriting process.

Co-directed by her new creative director Matthew Daniel Siskin (Beyoncé, 6LACK, Florence & The Machine), Jauregui’s livestream will air Thursday, Oct. 14, and Friday, Oct. 15, across multiple territories, including North and South America, Asia, Australia and New Zealand, the U.K., Europe and Africa. Tickets are on sale here.

“I want people to experience the rawness of the songs, and I feel like I really captured that,” Jauregui tells Billboard. “And I’m really capturing that through the process of creating this piece that I’m going to present to people.”

I feel like I’m really exploring my strength through my vulnerability. […] I learned that I am resilient. I learned that I really do have a lot of inner strength and power. And I learned that I’m protected and guided spiritually, and I leaned in deeper than I ever have in my life.

Alongside the record, Lauren has announced a special global live stream performance—co-directed with Matthew Daniel Siskin and produced by Moment House—where she will perform songs from Prelude for the first time on October 15.
